VI. (§8.6) Parenting Plan—Form

The following sample parenting plan, like the Supreme Court of Missouri guidelines, see §8.1, supra, is an example and is not designed to serve as a “fill-in-the-blanks” form. Counsel should carefully consider all of the facts and circumstances concerning the specific family and craft a plan that makes sense given the circumstances of the specific family. The parenting plan provisions needed for a traditional family in a divorce may be different from those needed in a paternity action or those needed for a young child who has never had a relationship with one parent. In this process, counsel may also want to consider using phrases such as “Parent A’s time with the children” as opposed to “visitation” in an effort to make both parents satisfied with the...
