In Bischoff v. Dodson, 405 S.W.2d 514, 518–19 (Mo. App. S.D. 1966), the plaintiff, a delivery man, testified that:

· he lost earnings as a result of his injury (he estimated $125 a month);

· he had to pay a man $148.45 for his services;

· he also paid his two sons $900 for their services to assist him; and

· he was off work completely for 58 days.

The court held that this evidence was insufficient to prove lost earnings because (1) the evidence only “infer[red]” that the plaintiff’s business was a one-man affair...
