If the couple has been married for less than two years on the date when the non-USC’s application for adjustment of status is approved or the date when the non-USC enters the United States with the immigrant visa, the non-USC’s LPR status will be conditional. The difference between CPR (conditional lawful permanent resident) status and LPR status is that, in the case of CPR status, certain events may trigger termination of the status if they occur within two years of the grant of status.
