Section 7 Necessity of Paying Sales Tax

Sales tax must be paid on any new or used motor vehicle before a certificate of title will be issued. Section 144.070, RSMo 2000. A title may be received by the purchaser upon proof that no sales tax was incurred or due on the acquisition of a motor vehicle. Section 144.070.1. Paying for the sales tax with an insufficient funds check or claiming an invalid exemption will be deemed nonpayment and will result in nonreceipt of title or the cancellation of any title received.
