B. (§7.26) Equal Protection

Section 1 of the Fourteenth Amendment also commands that no person shall be denied equal protection of the law by any state. This provision affects local government enactments that classify persons for purposes of allocating benefits and burdens. Similar treatment must be accorded those who are similarly situated.
