Subrogation is an equitable common-law doctrine based on the principle that the ultimate payment of an obligation should be by the one who, in good conscience, should pay it. Frago v. Sage, 737 S.W.2d 482 (Mo. App. E.D. 1987); Knight v. Calvert Fire Ins. Co., 268 S.W.2d 53 (Mo. App. E.D. 1954). Subrogation exists to prevent unjust enrichment. Keisker v.
