A. Interview the client.
1. Discuss, with the client, the client’s understanding of legal actions being taken and explanation of the child’s injury or other circumstances.
2. Meet and observe family members and discuss their understanding of the case.
3. Have the client prepare a detailed personal and family or household background summary, including a history of mental illness, drug or alcohol abuse, criminal convictions, arrests, medical problems, and other legal involvements.
4. Have the client prepare a detailed chronology of the events leading to the present abuse or neglect allegations, including dates, times, events, and the names of those present at the time of the incidents in question.
