3. (§6.6) Housing Codes and Property Maintenance Codes

The model code organizations also develop and publish model codes in a variety of other construction areas. In the area of residential construction, for example, the Council of American Building Officials (CABO) promulgates the One- and Two-Family Dwelling Code, while the ICC has developed the International Residential Code and the International Property Maintenance Code. Housing codes usually apply exclusively to “dwellings,” which include any structures or buildings designed or used for human habitation. Property maintenance codes typically apply in part to dwellings and in part to nonresidential structures.
