Proof of medically significant emotional distress in a claim for negligent infliction of emotional distress requires expert medical testimony.
In Bass v. Nooney Co., 646 S.W.2d 765, 767 (Mo. banc 1983), the plaintiff’s psychiatrist testified that she suffered from “a severe anxiety reaction which . . . , with medical certainty, was precipitated by being stuck in the elevator.” Along with her allegations of emotional distress, the Court held that she offered sufficient evidence to warrant jury submission of her claim.
