. If the court finds that the verdict for [the plaintiff] was inadequate because the amount of the verdict was less than reasonable compensation for the plaintiff's injuries and damages but was not so grossly inadequate as to indicate bias, passion, or prejudice on the part of the jury, [the plaintiff] requests the court [to increase the size of the jury's award by $50,000, or in the alternative, to grant a new trial to the plaintiff on the issue of damages only].
