The first, and possibly the most important, thing counsel needs to understand about auto policy exclusions is that they are governed by the dictates of the Motor Vehicle Financial Responsibility Law (MVFRL), Chapter 303, RSMo. Only five exclusions are authorized:
1. The “named driver” exclusion, § 303.190.2(3), RSMo 2000, usually found in an endorsement to the policy
2. The two “workers’ compensation” exclusions, § 303.190.5
3. The “maintenance or repair” exclusion, id.
4. The “property owned by, rented to, in [the] charge of or transported by the insured” exclusion, id.
