I. (§5.1) Hiring

School boards are authorized to hire a superintendent of schools for a term not to exceed three years. Sections 168.191, 168.201, RSMo 2000. In a metropolitan district, the superintendent is appointed for a term of one to four years, during which time his or her compensation may not be reduced. Section 168.211, RSMo 2000. The superintendent has general supervision of the school system, subject to the control of the board.

Every school district containing a city with at least 10,000 inhabitants may employ a business manager, who is to have charge of the purchasing of all supplies and materials for the repair and maintenance of the buildings of the district and the upkeep of all buildings and grounds.
