School boards have considerably more discretion to modify indefinite contracts than to terminate them or place the tenured teacher on involuntary leave. Indefinite contracts may be unilaterally modified annually on or before May 15 in terms of the length of the next school year and the annual compensation “as provided by the salary schedule adopted by the board of education applicable to all teachers.” Section 168.110(2), RSMo 2000.
