To be negotiable, an instrument must be signed by the drawer in the case of a draft or by the maker in the case of a note. A signature may be made manually or by means of a device or machine and by the use of any name, including a trade or assumed name. Section 400.3-401(b), RSMo 2000. A signature includes any word, mark, or symbol executed or adopted by a party with the present intention of authenticating the writing. Id.; § 400.1-201(39), RSMo Supp. 2006.
