IV. (§4.7) Commercial General Liability Insurance

A commercial general liability (CGL) policy is the policy most often called on to provide insurance coverage for accidents occurring at a construction site. It provides coverage for certain damages: “bodily injury,” “property damage,” and “personal and advertising injury.” Each of these terms is defined in a CGL policy. Most casualty insurance carriers use the standard CGL policy form developed and revised over the years by the Insurance Services Office, Inc. (ISO). The significant dissenters to this group are the St. Paul Companies, which are among the top ten writers of CGL coverage in the United States. They have their own coverage forms, the organizational structure of which is quite different than how ISO lays out its forms.
