C. (§4.6) Controlled Insurance Programs

For construction projects over $50 million that have a sufficient project payroll to sustain a viable controlled insurance program (CIP), a CIP may be implemented. A CIP is a wrap-up insurance program that usually consists of workers’ compensation/employers’ liability, commercial general liability, and umbrella/excess liability insurance for most project participants working at a specified job site, plus centralized safety/loss control and claims/medical case management. As part of its insurance program, a CIP usually includes completed operations coverage for three to five years following project completion.
