Subpoenas may be issued by the persons authorized to take depositions under Rule 57.05 or 57.06 or by the clerk of the court in which the action is pending. Rule 57.09(a). But a party’s attorney who is also a notary may not compel attendance of a nonparty witness by issuing a self-notarized subpoena. State ex rel. Ellis v. Schroeder, 663 S.W.2d 766 (Mo.
