The juvenile officer, if ordered to conduct a social study, must, among other things, make an “investigation and evaluation of the habits, surroundings, conditions and tendencies of the juvenile.” Rule 118.01.a. This investigation and evaluation will be conducted by the juvenile officer or, more commonly, by a deputy, with a view to determining which, if any, of the treatment alternatives available to the juvenile court under § 211.181, RSMo Supp. 2010, are appropriate for the child.
