When a petition is filed in a delinquency matter, a hearing on that petition must be set as soon as practicable. Rule 127.08.h. If the petition involves a child placed in protective custody, the adjudication hearing must be held within 60 days from the date the child came into protective custody. Rules 124.06.a and 124.01.a(2). It is at this “adjudicatory hearing” that the juvenile officer, as the petitioner in the cause, is given the opportunity to establish the truth of the allegations in the petition.
