Garnishment of insurance proceeds has a long history in Missouri. Pickering v. Hartsock, 287 S.W. 819 (Mo. App. W.D. 1926). The validity of a garnishment proceeding to collect insurance proceeds was clouded with the enactment of § 379.200, now RSMo 2000. Section 379.200 provides that, after the recovery of a final judgment against the insured, the judgment creditor is entitled to the proceeds of any insurance policy covering the insured for the underlying action.
