§ 3.7.5 Exemptions and Exceptions to Registration Requirement

The Technical Registration Act allows a registered architect, geologist, engineer or landscape architect to practice in another professional category regulated under the Act only to the extent that person is qualified to do so, and only to the extent such work is necessary and incidental to the work of the registrant’s profession on a specific project.²² This limited exception for “necessary and incidental” practice does not apply to public works projects.²³ Registered professional engineers will be registered in the branch of engineering for which they have demonstrated proficiency,²⁴ but they may practice in any other branch of engineering if they possess the education, technical knowledge, or experience to perform engagements or assignments in that branch.²⁵ In practice, a registrant intending to practice in multiple branches of engineering should demonstrate proficiency and obtain registration in each branch in which services will be...
