Under federal law, a person who fails to appear in response to a summons for jury duty can be fined up to $100, imprisoned up to three days, or both. 28 U.S.C. § 1866(g). Jurors are paid an attendance fee of $40 per day. 28 U.S.C. § 1871(b)(1).
Additionally, jurors receive a travel allowance up to the maximum rate per mile that the Director of the Administrative Office of the United States Courts has prescribed, as well as reasonable parking expenses. 28 U.S.C. § 1871(c).
