Under Missouri law, any individual called for jury duty is required to appear unless excused by statute. Failing to appear can result in a fine of up to $500. In addition to, or in lieu of, the fine, the court can order the individual to complete a period of community service for at least the same amount of time as if the person would have completed jury service. Section 494.450, RSMo Supp. 2007.
