I. (§28.1) Introduction and Definitions

This chapter is intended to provide the practitioner with a basic overview of the law relating to probation and parole in Missouri and other alternatives to traditional institutional confinement.

The statutory definitions of probation and parole are as follows:

“Probation”, a procedure under which a defendant found guilty of a crime upon verdict or plea is released by the court without imprisonment, subject to conditions imposed by the court and subject to the supervision of the board.
