The Missouri legislature has enacted the underground and petroleum storage tanks law, §§ 319.100–319.139, RSMo 2000 and Supp. 2011, which largely tracks the federal requirements for USTs. Under the Missouri law, USTs must be registered with MoDNR. Section 319.103, RSMo 2000. There are also strict notification and financial responsibility requirements, as well as provisions for penalties of up to $10,000 for each day, or part of a day, that a violation occurs.
