IV. (§27.11) In Personam Jurisdiction

Jurisdiction based on the domicile of the petitioning spouse is sufficient to authorize the dissolution of a marriage. If the proceeding affects status only, such as the existence of the marriage itself or custody of children, the action is in rem, and a valid judgment requires only that the res be before the court on proper notice.
