A "contract for sale," as defined by § 400.2-106, RSMo 2000, of goods having a value of $500 or more is not enforceable unless it is in writing. Section 400.2-201, RSMo 2000. The sale of all other forms of personal property must be in writing if the sale price is greater than $5,000. Section 400.1-206, RSMo 2000. To be enforceable, contracts that involve the sale of real estate, the payment of another's debt, or the leasing of real estate interests for a period greater than one year or that will not be completely performed within one year must be in writing. Section 432.010, RSMo 2000 (statute of frauds). Exceptions to this general rule, as to goods only, are:

· transactions between merchants when the agreement is confirmed at a later date in writing, § 400.2-201(2);
