After a child in police custody for an alleged law violation is presented to the juvenile court, the juvenile officer must begin an investigation to determine, among other things, whether:
· the child should be detained or released;
· the child comes within the jurisdiction of the court; and
· the child’s case should be informally adjusted or a petition should be filed.
