Utilities—including telephone, telegraph, electric, water, sewer, gas, and gas pipeline companies—may obtain easements in the normal manner, such as by purchase. Babler v. Shell Pipe Line Corp., 34 F. Supp. 10 (W.D. Mo. 1940). Alternatively, utilities may obtain easements by condemnation, i.e., eminent domain. See, e.g., §§ 393.020, 393.430, and 523.010, RSMo 2000.
