IV. (§21.9) Qualifications and Exemptions
Missouri law defines a qualified juror as one who is “in a position to enter the jury box disinterested and with an open mind, free from bias or prejudice” and willing to “accord each witness’s testimony the weight to which it is entitled.” State v. Ealy, 624 S.W.2d 490, 493 (Mo. App. W.D. 1981). Section 494.400, RSMo Supp. 2004, provides the general statutory qualifications for jurors:
All persons qualified for grand or petit jury service shall be citizens of the state and shall be selected at random from a fair cross section of the citizens of the county or of a city not...
