5. (§21.13) Personal Property

Expert testimony is also helpful in valuing personal property. If a divorcing couple owns several automobiles, a local automobile dealer can testify as to their value. Even without an expert, counsel should know the “blue book” value of the automobiles, which can be obtained from:

· guides;

· the internet;

· the classified ads in the newspaper;

· local buy/sell publications; and

· insurance agents.

For more exotic types of personalty, such as antiques or rare works of art, a local art museum curator or reputable antique dealer can be used. As with any expert, counsel...
