Section 21 Security Deposits

Section 535.300, RSMo 2000, limits the amount of a security deposit that the landlord may demand or receive to 2 months’ rent and requires the landlord, within 30 days after the tenancy’s termination date, to either return the full amount of the security deposit or furnish to the tenant a written itemized list of the damages for which the security deposit or a portion of it is being withheld, together with the balance of the security deposit. In addition, § 535.300:
