III. (§2.24) Proof of Marriage

Problems sometimes arise in proving that a valid marriage has occurred. Section 451.110, RSMo 2000, makes the marriage certificate prima facie proof of the facts recited in it. Sections 451.170–451.210, RSMo 2000, provide methods of:

obtaining new certificates to replace lost or destroyed ones;

replacing lost or destroyed county records of the marriage; and

proving the marriage through affidavits from the minister or two witnesses.
