D. (§2.12) Guardian ad Litem
A guardian ad litem must be appointed to represent a minor adoptee who is under the age of 18 years. If the adoptee is over 18 and incompetent, a guardian ad litem may be appointed at the discretion of the court. The guardian ad litem is charged with the responsibility of protecting and promoting the best interests of the child. In re G___, 389 S.W.2d 63 (Mo. App. S.D. 1965).
