Rule 56.01(b)(1) sets out the general rule and is similar to the general scope of Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 26(b)(1), which provides that, except for privileged matters, discovery may be had concerning any matter relevant to the subject matter involved in the pending action if it appears reasonably calculated to lead to the discovery of admissible evidence.
