Chapter 2 of the deskbook is intended to be used by counsel who is attempting to assist a client in:

• determining eligibility for various retirement benefits;

• completing an application for retirement benefits; or

• analyzing the nature and amount of benefits available to the individual and the individual’s survivors from a particular type of plan.

In preparing to do so, counsel should obtain some of the following information from the individual to identify the nature and extent of the retirement benefits for which the individual may be eligible:
