In Weaver v. African Methodist Episcopal Church, Inc.,54 S.W.3d 575 (Mo. App. W.D. 2001), the plaintiff, Saundra Weaver, was a minister in a local congregation of the African Methodist Episcopal (AME) church from 1990 to 1996, when Elder Prince Albert Williams and Bishop Vernon Byrd fired her. In 1998, Weaver sued, alleging that, beginning in the 1980s, Rev. Ronald Williams required her to have sex with him in exchange for his support of her ordination as an AME minister. Eventually, she complained to Elder Williams, their mutual supervisor, who said he would stop the harassment.
