a. (§16.32) Plans of State and Local Governments
Persons who are employed by agencies or instrumentalities of state or local government such as teachers, police officers, fire fighters, highway department employees, circuit courts, etc. are in almost all cases provided some form of retirement benefits under state or local law. A government plan is a plan established and maintained for its employees by the United States government, by a state government or its political subdivisions, or by an agency or instrumentality of the United States, a state government, or political subdivision.
