Railroad employees are covered under the Railroad Retirement Act, ch. 868, 48 Stat. 1283, established in 1934. Railroad retirement benefits are paid from the Railroad Retirement Account, which is maintained by the United States Department of Treasury, financed through taxes levied on railroad employees and employers, Annuity benefits under the Railroad Retirement Act (the Act) are comprised of two independently calculated components:
