In 1995, the Missouri General Assembly enacted § 211.073, RSMo 2000, which was intended to bridge the gap between the juvenile process and the adult criminal process. Similar statutes had been enacted in other states, such as Illinois and California, although in different form.
After a juvenile has been transferred to a court of general jurisdiction under § 211.071, RSMo Supp. 2010, and has either been convicted or entered a plea of guilty, the court may invoke both juvenile and adult dispositions simultaneously and suspend the execution of the adult sentence while imposing the juvenile disposition.
