F. (§15.28) Procedure on Writs in Appellate Courts

Appellate courts in Missouri have the authority to hear and determine extraordinary writs. See Rules 30.31, 84.22, 84.23, and 84.24. In the Supreme Court, only the original of a petition or application for writ of habeas corpus needs to be filed. Rule 30.11. The Western District of the Missouri Court of Appeals requires the filing of an original and four copies of pleadings in original writ proceedings. Special Rule XII(A). In the Eastern District, the original and five copies should be filed. Special Rule 410. In the Southern District, an original and a copy for each judge (seven) must be filed. Special Rule 2(a).
