E. (§14.17) Injury to Spouse—Loss of Consortium

If one spouse is injured, the other spouse has an independent cause of action for loss of consortium. The Supreme Court of Missouri stated in Rea v. Feeback, 244 S.W.2d 1017, 1019 (Mo. 1952), that “a negligently inflicted personal injury to a wife immediately gives rise to two independent causes of action, one for injury to the wife and the other in favor of the husband.” The Supreme Court of Missouri recognized a cause of action in the wife for the loss of the consortium with her husband in Novak v.
