D. (§14.14) Duty of Court-Appointed Attorney
The trial court is required to appoint an attorney to represent an alleged incapacitated or disabled person immediately upon the filing of a petition. In re Myles, 273 S.W.3d 83, 85 (Mo. App. E.D. 2008). The court-appointed attorney is required to meet with the respondent and to make an initial determination of the respondent’s ability to understand and assist in the advancement of the respondent’s interests.
