In addition to assistance provided by deputies and attorneys, the juvenile officer, particularly in urban areas, may have the benefit of other support personnel. Diagnostic and treatment services are sometimes provided to children or their parents by physicians, psychologists, or psychiatrists. Services of family therapists and vocational and educational counselors are also frequently available to the juvenile officer to aid in the rehabilitative process. Although these professionals may be retained on a private basis, the law authorizes the juvenile court to hire such personnel as part of the juvenile court staff.
