B. (§13.40) Organizations as Sources of Expert Witnesses

Experts can be located through legal organizations geared to the plaintiff or defense bar. These organizations include:

In Missouri, both the defense bar and the plaintiffs’ bar have similar organizations. The Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys is located at 240 East High Street, Suite 300, P.O. Box 1792, Jefferson City, MO 65102, 573/635-5215 (www.matanet.org).

Hospitals or medical schools may be a starting point for medical expert witnesses. Generally, the relevant department may either have individuals willing to review cases or testify or both. If not, most can provide a reference to an expert in the area willing to provide legal consultations. Universities, colleges, and testing or research centers are also excellent initial points of contact.
