7. (§13.16) Causation
Even when the "violent crimes" exception applies, the plaintiff must still prove causation. When the plaintiff participates in an altercation, even with the laudable motive of breaking up a fight, the plaintiff’s own conduct is the sole precipitating cause of injury to the plaintiff, and the premises owner will not be held liable.
