The Missouri security deposit statute, § 535.300, RSMo 2000, is silent on the question of entitlement to interest earned on the security deposit. In the absence of a statute, landlords apparently retain any interest earned on the deposit. Some residential lease forms address the issue of interest earned on the security deposit, saying that it will be retained by the landlord, though most residential leases are silent on the issue.
