B. (§12.5) Procedures for the Children’s Division

Once a hot-line call is made to the CD, the CD forwards the call to its local office. Within 24 hours of the receipt of
this report, the local office must begin its investigation of
the suspected abuse or neglect unless the report involves
an allegation of educational neglect, in which case the investigation must instead begin in 72 hours. Section 210.145.5, RSMo Supp. 2011; see also § 210.145.2. “If the report indicates the child is in danger of serious physical harm or threat to life,” the investigation must include direct observation of the child within 24 hours of receipt of the report.
