1. (§12.26) Tort
Counties, as quasi-corporations organized for governmental purposes, are immune from suit in tort except in cases of the negligent operation of motor vehicles and, under certain circumstances, the negligent maintenance of public property; otherwise, counties have the state’s sovereign immunity.
