D. (§11.42) Losses Covered

In general, the LLA permits a vessel owner to limit liability against claims, whether in contract or tort, that arise from operation of the vessel. Among the losses covered are:

· death and personal injury claims arising under the general maritime law, the Jones Act, 46 U.S.C. §§ 30104 et seq., and state wrongful death statutes;

· collision losses;

· cargo losses; and

· salvage.
